How to choose an AI girlfriend in about ten minutes
Testing in the wrong order wastes an evening. This page puts the six checks in the sequence that eliminates the most apps the fastest, starting with the one nobody can fake.
Fictional AI characters. No real people, no invented review scores.
Six checks, in the order that eliminates fastest
Start with memory. It cannot be faked in a demo.

02The detail
The order matters more than the checklist
Most people start with the character roster, which is the last thing that should decide it — a beautiful roster attached to a two-message memory is still a two-message memory.
Begin with persistence, because it is the only check an app cannot stage. Open a conversation, mention something specific — a job, a city, an argument you are having with a landlord — then close the tab. Come back the next day and say nothing about it. If it comes back on its own, the app has real context. This is the first step in how to choose an AI girlfriend that you will still be using in a month, and it costs you two minutes across two days.
The second check is tone control, and the trap is that almost every app claims it. The question is not whether a personality slider exists but whether moving it changes the next message in the thread you are already in. If the change only takes effect in a fresh conversation, you do not have tone control; you have a character picker with extra steps.
Checks three to six run in one sitting: count the fields the signup asks for, note whether anything must be installed, read the character sheet before you open it, and find where the free tier stops. None of those needs a second day, and each of them is a reason to close the tab and try the next name on your list.
What works well
- The first check takes two minutes and rules out most of the field
- Every step produces a yes or no, not an impression
- Nothing on the list requires paying to find the answer
- Works the same on a phone as on a laptop
- The order is fixed, so two apps stay comparable
Worth knowing first
- The memory check needs a second session on another day
- Free tiers move, so re-check pricing before you commit
- Every character is fictional, not a real person
- Strictly 18+, with an age notice before anything loads

What a shortlist looks like on the desk
Three characters kept back for the second round, each testing a different one of the six checks.

Opened on a Monday, reopened on a Wednesday — the check is whether Monday came back unprompted.

Used for the tone test: the same thread, warmer, then blunter, without starting over.

The control. If a character reads flat on day one, day three rarely rescues it.
04In practice
Where the ten minutes actually go
Two minutes to open an app and start a conversation with something concrete. Two minutes on the tone slider inside that same thread. One minute counting signup fields and looking for an install requirement. Three minutes reading two character sheets properly rather than skimming the photos. That leaves two minutes for the pricing page, which is where most of the surprises live.
The next day, thirty seconds tells you the rest. Reopen the thread, say something unrelated to yesterday, and see whether yesterday exists. Apps that pass that one usually pass the others, which is exactly why it goes first rather than last.
